Q: How long have you been in business? 
A: Since 1940.

Q: What do you publish? 
A: BMH Books was originally founded to produce Sunday school resources for the Fellowship of Grace Brethren Churches and to publish books by faculty members of Grace College and Grace Theological Seminary. Books by those authors (McClain, Hoyt, Davis, Kent, Whitcomb) are still our best sellers. We have, however, in recent years expanded to include contemporary authors.

We do not publish fiction, poetry, or children’s books. Primarily our books are used as texts in Bible colleges, Bible institutes, and seminaries. We revive and refresh the classics, publish books on Brethren history and doctrine, and show preference to Grace Brethren authors who have important and worthwhile messages that need to be heard.

Q: I’m an aspiring writer—what should I do? 
A: If you want excellent instruction in writing, we urge you to consider enrolling in the Apprentice course of the Christian Writer’s Guild at www.christianwritersguild.com.
 
If you’re already fairly experienced and capable as a writer, we encourage you to attend a good writer’s conference such as Writing for the Soul (Colorado Springs, Col.), Write to Publish (Wheaton, Ill.), Mt. Hermon (California) or others. More details at www.stuartmarket.com.

Q: Do you publish only royalty projects? 
A: Until recently, the answer was “yes.” However, we have broadened our publishing models to include not only royalty projects, but also subsidized publishing (Brethren history and doctrine works), guaranteed purchase, and shared equity. The shared equity option, where we share the pre-press costs with an author and then do small-run digital printing, enables a book with a narrow or limited market to come to press. Robyn Graham’s memoir, He Touched Me, is an example of this kind of product.

Q: What about other versions of your books, such as audio books, electronic/digital versions, large-print, foreign translations, etc.? 
A: All our subsidiary rights are handled by a rights broker, located in Chicago. He coordinates with other publishers to represent BMH Books in all these other markets. Subsidiary rights is a growing area for the future.

Q: Do you have any theological restrictions on your products? 
A: We are careful that all BMH books agree with the cardinal doctrines of the Christian faith and are true to Trinitarian theology. Most of our eschatological works are from a pre-trib, pre-mill dispensational perspective. Our tagline is “theology you can trust,” and we take great pains to make sure our books are theologically accurate and sound.
