In 2004, Terry White assumed leadership of the Brethren Missionary Herald Company. His task was to breathe life into a struggling organization that had a stellar history of providing communications and book publishing services to the Fellowship of Grace Brethren Churches. One of his first tasks was to create a communications piece that would provide news and information to the people and churches of the FGBC. Thus the BMH Editor's Blog began simply on May 14, 2004 with a report of the upcoming Northwest Focus Retreat.

This book is a a book about people in the Fellowship of Grace Brethren Churches. It is a running record of news and events, often as they happened, that was reported on the blog, www.fgbc-world.blogspot.com, from May to December 2004.

The men and women portrayed in this third volume of the Heroes Who Live On series have all made a lasting impression on the written and developmental history of the Fellowship of Grace Brethren Churches.

Featured in this volume are Christopher Sauer (Sower), Sr., Amy B. Greenlun, Elizabeth Stauffer Tyson, Floyd Taber, Herman Koontz, Bernard Schneider, James Boyer, Keith Altig, Angie Garber, Marguerite Dunning, Walter Fretz, and Raimundo Cardoso.

These "heroes" form a beautiful and complex mosaic that stretches across three centuries. What is the difference between an ordinance and a sacrament? In the minds of average Christians, they seem to be clear and well-defined. But when pressed to actually define the terms, it is not a task that is easily undertaken. In fact, the Church has seen a tremendous amount of diversity as to what an ordinance really is. From the early post-apostolic era, in which little attention or definition was offered, to the height of Scholasticism in the Middle Ages, when a list of 30 sacraments was presented, theologians have discussed and debated this subject.

Ordinances: What Are They? is written by Grace Brethren pastor David Plaster and explores the possible parameters which Biblical data and theological deduction place on the term “ordinance.” He provides an overview of the term and its history, reviews its ceremonial aspects, highlights any intended significance, and discusses what constitutes an expectation of perpetuation regarding ordnances.
